  • PRAGATI has finished its 50th meeting, thus completing one decade of active governance and cooperative federalism.
  • The Prime Minister has reviewed Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana with an emphasis on Aadhar-based biometric identification.

PRAGATI, Prime Minister's flagship platform for Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation, has reached a significant milestone with the successful conduct of its 50th meeting. Since its inception by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015, PRAGATI has revolutionized governance by introducing real-time monitoring and resolution of key infrastructure projects and public grievances through direct Prime Ministerial review.

The platform represents co-operative federalism wherein the Centre, States and Union Ministries are connected on one digital platform. During the last ten years, PRAGATI has facilitated faster decision-making, resolution of stalled issues in major infrastructure projects, and inculcated a strong accountability system. Today we have a look at the maternity benefit scheme-Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana of Women and Child Development Ministry.

The maternity benefit scheme of the government- Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, was examined extensively through the PRAGATI system itself, by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. The Scheme states that Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers get a cash benefit of five thousand rupees for the first child and six thousand rupees for the second girl child. In this meeting, the Prime Minister advised all Ministries and Departments that the identification of beneficiaries must be carried out strictly on the basis of biometric Aadhaar authentication.

He also asked to investigate the possibilities of operation and integration of other schemes into the existing one, particularly those for the promotion of child care, health, and hygiene. Since the start of the PMMVY scheme in January 2017, more than four crores recipients have been given the maternity benefit worth more than 20 thousand crores directly in their accounts as benefit transfer.
