- Under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) scheme, cash benefit has been provided to over 4 crore women across the country, to support pregnant and new mother
- All beneficiaries have received at least one benefit under the scheme to promote nutrition and health of pregnant women and postnatal care
More than 4 crore women in India have been benefitted by the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), each getting at least one maternity assistance installment, with total disbursements of more than ₹19,028 crore, as per the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
Terming the achievement as a reflection of the government's sustained commitment to the health of mothers and children, the ministry released a statement announcing the extension of a special campaign of registration under the scheme till August 15. The door-to-door campaign, undertaken by Anganwadi and ASHA workers, is aimed at registering all eligible pregnant and lactating women, as well as instilling a more positive attitude towards the girl child.
PMMVY is under the centrally sponsored Mission Shakti with the 'Samarthya' sub-scheme, providing half wage compensation under Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The beneficiaries are paid ₹5,000 in two installments for their first child and ₹6,000 in one instalment for the birth of the second girl child.
To increase transparency and efficiency, the scheme is now administered through PMMVYSoft, a digital platform that was introduced in March 2023. It takes advantage of Aadhaar-based authentication and NPCI verification to deliver funds directly to beneficiaries' Aadhaar-linked post office or bank accounts.
The enhanced system comprises an Integrated Grievance Module, toll-free multilingual helpline (14408), biometric authentication through Facial Recognition System (FRS), and an automated due-list to monitor and assist prospective beneficiaries.
The ministry attributed the scheme's success to field-level workers' and state authorities' joint efforts, reiterating its commitment towards improving maternal health, nutrition, and gender equity through PMMVY.
