Recently, actress and advocate for women's wellness Lisa Ray will be in Hyderabad on June 18 for a series of talks on women's mid-life health leading to the unveiling of NuHer, a clinic grounded in science that is trying to fill the gaps in the care, awareness, and support of women going through perimenopause and menopause.

Lisa was one of the founders of NuHer, a company that seeks to change how midlife hormonal changes are perceived and dealt with. The project has been backed by a clinical advisory board of experts such as Dr. Reina Punj, Dr. Kajal Parikh, Dr. Priyanka Mehta, Dr. Anuya Manerkar, Priyanka Kapoor, and Parinaz Agha.

The clinic wants to put an end to the stigma and the lack of awareness that surround menopause, a time in life that gets ignored or is most of the time blamed on stress and ageing. By 2026, experts predict that more than 100 million women in India will be menstruating or will have stopped. Studies also show that more than 80 percent of women who are aged between 40 and 60 suffer from symptoms such as tiredness, sleeplessness, mood changes, and sudden feelings of heat, but the majority of them do not go to the doctor for treatment.

Key Highlights:

  • Lisa Ray to launch NuHer, a science-backed menopause and midlife wellness clinic in Hyderabad on June 18
  • NuHer aims to address care gaps for women navigating perimenopause and menopause through a holistic, evidence-based approach
  • More than 100 million women in India are expected to be in the midst of or post-menopause by 2026

Speaking about the project, Lisa pointed out that sometimes women get such a very limited education about their bodies that they remain without proper guidance during the phase of their life that is called midlife one of the most changing phases of a woman's existence, as she sees it.

“For much of our lives, we are taught just enough about our bodies to get by. Midlife follows, which is often the longest and most transformative phase of a woman’s body, yet it arrives with little structure, clarity, or support,” she said.

Ray drew attention to the fact that menopause discussion needs to be more open and that the symptoms of it are often downplayed. The biological changes in women are seen as the issue that one has to live with rather than the one that one can understand.

NuHer can be your one stop shop for various needs of menopausal women such as medical consultation on hormone replacement therapy and evidence based treatments. Personalized wellness plans which are based on nutrition, sleep and mental health. Advanced diagnostics to keep a track of changes linked to lowering levels of estrogen and progesterone and customized nutraceutical solutions like MENOVITA and MENOSTRONG.

Dr. Reina Punj, who is a specialist in internal medicine and endocrinology, stressed that preventive care is very important because menopause does not only affect the metabolism, but it also leads to a decrease in bone density and affects overall wellbeing.
