Dr. Pooja Bansal: Highly Skilled Obgyn Spreading Awareness About Women's & Adolescent Health

Dr. Pooja Bansal
Gynaecologist & Obstetrician, Bansal Specialty Clinic

Women play an important role not just at workplaces but also at home and in society as a whole. Therefore, their health becomes an important aspect to cater to. Women could face a lot of health issues during puberty, menarche, pregnancy and menopause. This task is performed skillfully by obstetricians and gynaecologists, which is why it is important to find one who can be trusted and partnered with to support endured well-being of patients.

Dr. Pooja Bansal is an experienced Obstetrician and Gynaecologist who practices out of Navi Mumbai and is currently practicing at Bansal Specialty Clinic. She is a highly qualified gynaecologist, an enthusiastic member of various gynaecological committees and also runs campaigns for cervical and breast cancer awareness. Here is an excerpt from her exclusive interview with the Women Entrepreneur Team, where Dr. Pooja talks about her passion for women's health awareness and her role and responsibilities at the Bansal Specialty Clinic.

What inspired you to start Bansal Specialty Clinic and what are some of the services that you offer at your clinic?

My inspiration to establish Bansal Specialty Clinic stems from my firm belief in providing quality medical care to women and an aspiration to eradicate unawareness that is rampant in the field.

Bansal Clinic is attached to Cloud Nine Group of hospitals which is a chain of maternity hospitals, is one of the leading women’s clinics that provides vast array of services ranging from obstetrics and gynaecology, infertility, ANC monitoring, painless delivery, pre-conceptional counseling, puberty and menopause clinic, pregnancy planning, premenstrual and menstrual problems, and laparoscopy surgery. I am a member of Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI), Association of Medical Counseling (AMC), and Mumbai Obstetrics and Gynaecological Society (MOGS) and Navi Mumbai Obstetric Gynaecological Society (NMOGS).

What are some important features about your expertise as a healthcare practitioner that you bring to the table?

I specialize in handling high risk pregnancy and highrisk maternity care, which includes complicated procedures related to pregnancy and deliveries, and handle cases of high-risk pregnancies like twin pregnancy, PIH, GDM and bad obstetrics. Apart from this, we also handle cases of fibroids and polyps through laparoscopic surgeries to remove tumors and cysts, and infertility cases for couples who are trying to conceive. Menopausal cases, early sexual life and health of adolescent girls’ health is also something we deal with on a daily basis. I also specialize in cosmetic gynaecology, which tries to modify areas around pelvis that had become laxed after pregnancies.

What are some of the most critical challenges that you face as a medical practitioner and how do you overcome them?

The biggest challenge is the unawareness society has regarding women's medical issues. Some of the diseases related to women’s health go unnoticed at the initial stages when they can be treated successfully. So, I advise girls to go for regular PAP smear test and perform self-examination. Another challenge is unreliable information which can be received through the internet. It is beneficial only to a certain extent but can cause undue anxiety amidst patients if they try to reach conclusions on their own. So, I suggest that people allow doctors to reach the diagnosis and plan a treatment plan accordingly.

What are some of the most significant professional milestones you have achieved so far and what has been your success mantra?

I consider my ability to connect with people, treat them and receive their blessings as the biggest success mantra and a professional milestone as well. The happiest moment at work for me is when I hold a baby in my hands after delivery. Another milestone is seeing patients remain in good health for the entirety of their treatment with me and even after that. I believe treating patients with dignity and prioritizing their health and timely addressing their concerns have contributed to my success so far. Additionally, keeping up with the research in the field and being consistently informed helps me greatly as a professional.

How do you foresee the Indian gynecology landscape evolving in the near future? What steps do you take to align yourself with the industry trends and developments?

Gynaecology in India has a lot of groundwork that is going on which includes awareness through camps for adolescent girls, under privileged women, and more, and this is helping break myths around mensuration, and women’s health. We see more and more women coming out and asking for information and treatment and taking care of smallest symptom or discomfort that could have been easily ignored. India has good foundation of gynaecologists who provide their services by making women health a priority and an important aspect of their professional lives.

Drawing from your experience as a business leader, what would your advice be to young women and girls who also aspire to become business leaders and entrepreneurs in the future?

I would suggest they be consistent with their efforts, even in troubling uncertainty. This works in any field. In the medical field, being a doctor is not an easy job because it comes with a lot of hard work, stress and challenges but if you are passionate and committed to it, you will end up seeing rewarding results. Being a gynaecologist, you need a lot of love in your heart, skills, continuous practice and most importantly, empathy.
