AI-powered extracurricular learning platform UpKraft has raised Rs 1.6 crore in a pre-seed funding round led by PedalStart, with participation from a group of angel investors. The fresh funding will enable Bengaluru-based startup to further leverage its AI capabilities, grow its business and scale in strategic cities of India.

The additional investments will fuel the fast-paced development of AI-powered learning products, continue development of the company's technology platform, and further optimization of the operational efficiency and customer experience. UpKraft will also leverage the investment for Bengaluru and Gurugram expansion and recruitment across product development, technology, sales, growth, tutor operations and customer support.

UpKraft is an AI-powered extra-curricular learning ecosystem founded by Tejasvi Singh Kushwah, Varun Mangal and Kritika Varandani, which will enable students to get access to verified expert tutors for structured learning programs. The startup provides extracurricular education through home-based classes, residential communities and partner schools with the goal of improving access to good skills development for children.

Key Highlights:

  • UpKraft raises Rs 1.6 crore in a pre-seed round led by PedalStart.
  • Funding will support AI product development, team expansion, and growth in Bengaluru and Gurugram.
  • UpKraft uses AI to deliver personalized extracurricular learning through verified expert tutors.

UpKraft's learning environment is different from the traditional extracurricular coach because artificial intelligence is used throughout the platform to customize learning for the student. Its AI-Powered features, such as the AI Practice Companion and the Progress Insights, enable students to practice more effectively, and allow parents to gain insight into learning progress through data. These digital tools are linked to a consistent set of levelled curricula, which guarantee learning outcomes.

The company has created programs for music and a few other extra-curricular subjects. It has also tied up with various residential communities in Bengaluru and Gurugram to ensure that learning programs are supported within the communities.

In the coming 12-18 months, UpKraft will sharply drive up student enrolments and consolidate its market footprint. The company plans to continue investing in its AI infrastructure and capabilities as well as building its teams in product engineering, AI and data science, business development, community marketing, customer success and tutor onboarding to further improve learning outcomes.

The investment follows a trend in the edtech industry in India where there is increasing interest in niche education areas other than academic learning. There is a growing demand for more structured extracurricular activities that facilitate all-round development for children, and technology and artificial intelligence (AI) have made it possible to offer more personalized learning experiences for them. Digital tools are helping startups to boost engagement, assess student learning, and provide at-scale instruction.

PedalStart, an operator-led startup accelerator, is leading the investment round, specializing in early stage startups. In addition to lending capital, PedalStart closely collaborates with their founders, providing them with strategic advice, such as on business development, operations, product development, and market expansion. The accelerator has a network of experienced operators, mentors and investors whose purpose is to guide startups to create scalable and sustainable businesses at their initial stage.

The new funding will help UpKraft further reinforce its technology-driven strategy for extracurricular learning, and widen its market scope in urban areas. The investment will help the company expand its learner base, enhance AI-powered learning, and expand its footprint in the rapidly expanding Indian EEE market.
