The Indian boxing team maintained its winning streak in the Commonwealth Games as world champion Jaismine Lamboria qualified for the semifinals of the women’s 57kg division after beating Elise Glynn of England in an exciting quarterfinal bout. Showing composure and good strategy by playing defensive and countering effectively, Jaismine secured a medal for India while showing India's dominance in the sport.
This victory makes the total number of Indians who have been assured of winning a medal in the boxing arena at Glasgow 10. Jaismine is set to participate in the semis on Friday as she seeks to get further into the final showdown.
Key Highlights:
- Jaismine Lamboria enters CWG semifinals as India’s boxing medal tally reaches 10
- India guarantees double-digit boxing medals with dominant semifinal qualifications
- Sakshi, Ankush, Narender and Jaismine strengthen India’s boxing medal campaign
Jaismine’s qualification for the semi-finals is certainly a significant achievement for the Indian boxing team in the Commonwealth Games, where the team is sure of at least a double-digit number of medals. It is an indication of the standard achieved in boxing in India by the boxers reaching the rounds.
The 24-year-old professional boxer comes from the city of Bhiwani, Haryana, and has an outstanding career with a notable highlight of winning a gold medal at the World Boxing Championships of 2025 in Liverpool. She also secured gold medals at the World Boxing Cups of 2025 in the featherweight category at Astana and New Delhi.
Joining Jaismine in the semifinals are Preeti Pawar (54kg), Priya Ghanghas (60kg), Sakshi Choudhary (51kg), Arundhati Choudhary (70kg), Lovlina Borgohain (75kg), Jadumani Singh Mandengbam (55kg), Sachin Siwach (60kg), Ankush Panghal (80kg), and Narender Berwal (90kg), each assured of at least a bronze medal.
India secured yet another medal in its boxing campaign as another female athlete, Sakshi qualified for the semifinals stage of the Commonwealth Games 2026 with a dominant unanimous win over Caitlin Fryers of Northern Ireland. Sakshi showcased a composed game in which she managed to dominate from the very first round and won by unanimous decision after winning three consecutive rounds on all the scorecards of the judges. Four judges judged the fight 29-27, while one judge awarded her a decisive 29-25 decision.
The nation was assured of another boxing medal after Arundhati won against Morgan Henderson (NZL) with a 3-1 split decision.
The boxing team from India maintained their remarkable winning streak when Narender earned a place in the semifinals for the male 90kg+ division with his well-fought 3-2 decision against Michael Seko of Samoa, thus guaranteeing yet another medal for the country. Ankush did not lag behind and dominated the match with excellent ring craft and smart counterpunching to beat Micock.
True to his dominance in the bout, all five judges scored it for him, with scores of 30-26, 30-27, 30-27, 30-27, and 30-27. With his qualification for the semifinals, Ankush has secured at least a bronze medal following the Commonwealth Games boxing format. This is because only the finalists of the competition qualify for gold and silver medals while the other three boxers are awarded bronze medals each.
