Hyderabad Set To Launch Women-Led Bike Taxi Service

Hyderabad-based startup is set to launch a women-led bike taxi service on September 1 to provide safe last-mile connectivity for women commuters. The pilot phase will begin with 50 women riders operating from Metro Rail stations at Ameerpet, Uppal, Nagole, Hitec City, and Madhapur.

The initiative aims to improve women's access to safe, reliable, and convenient transportation while creating employment opportunities for women in the city's mobility sector.

Shirisha Goudicherla, one of the riders, said, “We are among the first batch ready to take up duties. The company is recruiting more riders, aiming for 50 in total. With lucrative salaries and incentives, this looks encouraging for many of us.”

Explaining why fewer women take up such jobs, author Pritima Jaidev said, “The transport and aggregator sector remains heavily male-dominated, creating intimidating operational environments and a lack of peer support networks for female drivers.”

Transport experts pointed out that incidents such as the alleged rape of a woman cabin crew member en route to Shamshabad airport highlight the urgent need for women riders and drivers.

Many women drivers had also quit before owing to low and irregular income, rendering it hard to maintain their livelihoods with high maintenance and rental expenses of vehicles, they added. They recommended that better incentives should be offered than those for male drivers by the Government.

Krishnaveni Chitrala, founder of Zippintella Women Bike Taxi, said, “This is a much needed service in Hyderabad. We studied the shortfalls and introduced these rides with an encouraging pay scale.”

She explained the product module as “a first‑of‑its‑kind women led electric mobility platform that addresses two critical challenges in urban cities — safe transportation for women and the transition to sustainable mobility. Trained women drivers will operate electric two‑wheelers, creating a safe, reliable and ecofriendly commuting option.”

The launch reflects a growing trend of women-led mobility solutions aimed at making urban transportation safer and more inclusive. By encouraging more women to join the transport workforce, such initiatives not only address security concerns but also create new livelihood opportunities in a sector that has traditionally been dominated by men.

If the pilot receives a positive response, the company plans to expand its services to more Metro stations and other parts of Hyderabad. The initiative is expected to promote greater participation of women in the mobility sector while supporting the city's transition toward sustainable, electric transportation.
