Indian-origin Women to Lead the Institute of Medicine of Chicago

- Archana appointed as President-Elect and Fellow of IOMC
- Beena appointed as Secretary and Fellow of IOMC
The Institute of Medicine of Chicago (IOMC) was formed to promote health equity through education and scientific research in medicine. The Board of Governors of IOMC has voted unanimously to elect Dr. Archana Chatterjee as the new president-elect and member of IOMC; and appointed Dr. Beena Peters as secretary and fellow of IOMC.
Dr. Lorenzo Pence, IOMC’s current president, stated that the outstanding work performed by both Drs. Archana and Beena is critical to the success of IOMC in our mission to eliminate the health care disparities that exist today and create new approaches to healthcare for tomorrow.
“I am honored to take on the position of President-Elect and committed to creating opportunities to support healthy communities through impactful initiatives,” she said.
Currently, she is the Dean of the Chicago Medical School and Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science.
Dr. Archana has over 20 years as a pediatric infectious disease specialist and has conducted over 120 clinical trials and published over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles. In addition to her clinical work, she has presented over 1,000 lectures and presentations worldwide.
Dr. Beena is an experienced healthcare leader with more than 25 years in the industry. She previously served on the Board of Directors for IOMC and now is the chairperson of the IOMC Maternal & Child Health Workgroup.
As former System Chief Nursing Executive at Cook County Health, her leadership has had a tremendous impact on outstanding nursing practice and improved patient care.
She has been recognized as a Fellow with many distinguished Organizations including the American Academy of Nursing; and has won multiple awards such as 2023 Joan L. Shaver Outstanding Illinois Nurse Leader Award, and the Jonas Salk Health Leadership Award from March of Dimes.
