India’s women’s recurve team made history by winning the gold medal at the Archery World Cup 2026 Stage 2 in Shanghai after defeating host nation China in a thrilling final. The Indian team, featuring Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat, and young talent Kumkum Mohod, delivered a calm and confident performance under pressure to secure a memorable victory for India in international recurve archery.
But the final against China became a battle of wits and wits, with both teams fighting hard for the upper hand. The Indian team opened with a flying start and won the first set but in front of a huge home support the Chinese team came back strongly to even the scores. The game ended tied after four hard sets, and went into a shoot-off to decide the outcome.
The Indian women recurve team under extreme pressure showed great mental resilience and composure. The Indian trio kept their accuracy while the Chinese archers lost precious points in key moments to secure the shoot-off 5-4 with a better 28-26 result and India clinched a historic gold medal.
India's journey to the final was also special. The Indian side performed an unexpected set defeating archery powerhouse Korea in the Semi Finals. As one of the leading archery countries in the world, Korea has established dominance globally in archery competition. The defeat of Korea and subsequent acquisition of a Gold Medal by China has shown that India has attained a position of preeminence and confidence on the global stage of archery competition.
The historic success at stage 2 of the Shanghai World Cup of Archery 2026 has been a major milestone for Indian recurve archers and an important indicator of India's emergence as a major player globally.
