The third NTPC Khelo India National Ranking Women's Archery Championship was inaugurated at Ankur Ground in Bhopal on Thursday. The first ranking rounds featured 130 women senior category archers competing in recurve and compound events.
During the second session, 120 junior category archers, including top-of-the-line national and international level archers, exhibited their talents. The third session had 25 sub-junior archers in both events, who posted excellent scores.
The senior category also witnessed accurate performances; with archers exhibiting control and accuracy in recurve and compound events. The junior category was also impressive, with some participants exhibiting potential for higher-level competitions. A number of such archers have represented India in international competitions in the past, establishing high standards with their performance.
Seasoned officials ensured smooth conduct of competition, taking charge of all technical functions of the event. Albeit fewer in number, the sub-junior class archers showed a lot of promise and dedication. These young athletes concentrated on their rounds, following safety procedures and correct techniques. The organizers of the event maintained seamless transitions between sessions, with proper equipment inspection and target adjustment.
NTPC's ongoing patronage of women's archery through this championship is crucial in fostering new talent and shaping the sport at the grassroots level. The championship is a qualifying event for subsequent national competitions, attesting to the increasing number of women participating in archery. Standardized methods of scoring and worldwide standards for compliance, regulated by international technical officials, ensure a fair competitive atmosphere.
