India top pool after 12-0 victory over Singapore at Asia Cup

- Earlier, Japan's 6-0 victory over Thailand sealed India's spot in the Super 4s
The Indian women's hockey team concluded the group stages of the Women's Asia Cup 2025 without loss and atop their pool table following their 12-0 victory over Singapore in their third and last group stage match.
In the morning session, a 6-0 victory by Japan over Thailand had already put India through to the Super 4s.
India started the match on a strong footing, Mumtaz Khan scoring the first goal after 70 seconds to make it 1-0. Salima Tete scored the second one in the 11th minute, Lalremsiami scoring in the 13th minute.
Navneet Kaur scored off a penalty corner in the 14th minute, making it 4-0 in favor of India by the end of the first quarter.
Singapore began the second quarter on the right foot with an early penalty corner, but was unable to take advantage of it. In the 20th minute, Navneet Kaur scored her fourth goal of the tournament, making the score 5-0 for India.
Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke opened her tournament account with her first ever goal for the country in the 28th minute, and India was 6-0 up. Udita scored on penalty corner in the 29th minute, and at half time it was India 7 Singapore 0.
Mumtaz scored her second goal in the 32nd minute, increasing the score to 8-0. Neha also scored her first goal of the match in the 38th minute, and Mumtaz scored a hat-trick one minute later.
Sharmila scored another at the last minute of the quarter, and India's score stood at 11-0 at the end of the third quarter.
Singapore focused on good defence in the fourth quarter, with a lot of penalty corners held off. Vaishnavi, however, netted her second goal in minute 53 to bring India's count to 12-0. No other goal was netted and India closed the match with a solid victory.
India will now begin their Super 4 journey on Wednesday, September 10.
