The Indian team achieved a landmark victory by winning both categories in the first ever South Asia Soft Hockey Championship in 2026 held in Kathmandu, Nepal. This turned out to be a momentous occasion since the men's and women's teams won the championship cup.
In the women’s category, India demonstrated talent and strategy as the nation won the finals by beating Nepal 6-0 in a decisive manner.
With the help of their extraordinary talent on the field, Nandita Sharma scored four goals to lead India to a win. With eight goals for her account, she ended up as the top goal-scorer of the entire tournament.

Setting the tone right, India registered a historic 7-0 victory over arch rivals Pakistan in the men’s final. The Indian side thoroughly maintained the relentless pressure throughout the contest, with no room left for the opponent team for any comeback.
Spearheading India’s dominant campaign, Sahil Sapkal produced a clinical hat-trick performance and Vijay Rai contributed with two goals.
India’s sharp execution and high-tempo approach left Pakistan on the back foot throughout the contest, while Sahil secured the distinction of highest goal scorer of the championship.
Celebrating the overall dominant win, Dr Ashutosh Pant, President of the Soft Hockey Federation of India, congratulated both teams on their remarkable title victories.
Dr Aditya Nag along with other Federation officials conveyed their warm wishes and appreciation for the achievement.
Ramesh Singh, Federation General Secretary acknowledged the contribution of coach Dr Kapil Sharma along with the hard work of the athletes in India’s double triumph. According to him, the outstanding teamwork and leadership displayed, is expected to elevate the global profile of soft hockey by gaining more recognition at the international level.
The matches displayed passion and performance both as every goal was made with clarity, unity, and strategy. The Soft Hockey Championship took place from 20–22 May 2026 in Kathmandu.
