- India will face the Argentine women’s hockey team in four games during the tour
The 24-member Indian Women's Hockey Team has been selected for an upcoming series against Argentina, which will take place in Buenos Aires from April 13-17, 2026.
The four-match series against Argentina will serve as an important step in India's preparation for future events, including The Hockey World Cup in Belgium and The Netherlands in 2026, and the Asian Games, according to a press release.
The team includes a mix of experienced players and new players, reflecting the development of women's hockey in India.
This series will provide players and opportunity for exposure at an international level while also allowing the coaching staff to evaluate different combinations prior to a busy tournament schedule later this year.
Midfielder Salima Tete will continue as captain of the team. After recovering from injury, Deepika will rejoin the national team as the primary drag-flicker.
While Deepika has been rehabbing, several other players (Navneet Kaur, Manisha Chauhan, Udita and Annu) have stepped into key roles with Annu recently scoring drag-flick goals during qualifying matches.
Navneet has been one of the most consistent players for India over the last year and could prove very valuable for India during the upcoming tour.
The highly experienced goalkeeper Savita has returned to the team after missing several qualifying matches, while Bichu Devi Kharibam, who stepped in as a substitute goalie during Savita's absence, continues to remain with the team as a backup option.
Jyoti, the defender, and Mumtaz Khan, the forward, are both back on the team after being absent from four recent tournaments.
Others like Baljeet kaur and Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke have held on to their positions because of their continued strong track record at the international level while Rutuja Dadaso Pisal, Ishika and Sakshi Rana have been added to the squad as well due to their potential.
The head coach for the Indian women's team, Sjoerd Marijne, commented that the upcoming trip will help players gain invaluable experience and provide an opportunity to play against some of the toughest competition that they will face internationally.
