  • Lovlina Borgohain and Preeti Pawar lead India's squad
  • Tournament runs from 17 to 21 June in Czechia
  • The event serves as a key step towards Glasgow 2026 preparations

Recognised as one of Europe's most established boxing tournaments, the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem has remained a prominent fixture on the international boxing calendar for more than 50 years. This year's edition will be staged as a European Boxing Gold Tournament under World Boxing regulations, offering Indian boxers the chance to compete against some of the world's strongest talents.

India's women's squad features a blend of experience and proven international success. Lovlina Borgohain will compete in the 75kg category, while Preeti Pawar will represent the country in the 54kg division. They will be joined by Sakshi (51kg), Priya Ghanghas (60kg), and Parveen Hooda (65kg), all of whom have delivered impressive performances on the continental stage.

The women's team carries a significant status into the tournament. Priya Ghanghas, Sakshi, and Parveen Hooda have all secured gold medals at the Asian Championships, underlining the depth of talent within India's boxing programme. However, the squad will be without World No. 1 Jaismine Lamboria and Arundhati Choudhary, who are recovering from injuries and have been ruled out of the trip.

The men's squad also includes several promising names expected to play a vital role in India's future international campaigns. Jadumani Singh will compete in the 55kg category, while Sachin Siwach takes part in the 60kg division. Aditya Pratap (65kg), Sumit (70kg), Ankush (80kg), Kapil Pokhariya (90kg), and Narender (+90kg) complete the men's line-up.

The tournament arrives at an important stage in India's boxing calendar. With the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow less than a year away, BFI is keen to ensure its athletes receive consistent international exposure. Competing in Europe against high-quality opposition will allow coaches and selectors to assess form, test combinations, and identify areas for improvement before larger global events.

BFI President Ajay Singh highlighted the significance of the competition, describing the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem as one of the most respected tournaments in international boxing. He emphasised that competing against strong opponents from different countries helps athletes gain confidence, build experience, and adapt to varying competitive environments.
