HUL Announces Winners of Third Edition of Women in STEM

- The third edition of the Women in STEM Fellowship was announced by HUL
- Eight scientists from IISc, NCBS, and IIT Madras made it to the fellowship selection
- The Fellows will be granted financial assistance for their Ph.D. work in STEM fields
Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) has announced the list of women winners of the third edition of the Women in STEM Fellowship and handed out financial assistance to eight women scientists from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), and IIT-Madras. This assistance will help the women pursue doctoral work in STEM fields, as per the company release.
As part of their doctoral programs, the fellows will pursue research in the areas of climate action, sustainability, health, and hygiene, among others that are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals by the United Nations.
Apart from funding, the social innovators will get to learn from the management and academic tutors of HUL.
The award distribution was done during a function organized at the HUL R&D Bangalore campus and was attended by senior women leaders from the STEM fields, who included Dr Parvinder Maini, Scientific Secretary in the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, Dr Annapurni Subramaniam, Director of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, and Dr Aridni Shah, Co-founder and CEO of Immunito AI.
The Managing Director at HUL, Priya Nair, explains: "A large proportion of STEM graduates are women in India. HUL is doing its part to develop opportunities for women in science by mentoring, collaborating with educational institutions, and providing funding for research."
According to HUL Executive Director Vibhav Sanzgiri, the Fellowship that was established in 2023 exemplifies HUL's commitment to supporting women researchers in Science.
This Fellowship is funded by the Corporate Social Responsibility Programme operated by Hindustan Unilever.
