HP Contributes Highest Share of Women in Workforce: SBI Report
By: WE Staff | Thursday, 16 November 2023
Himachal Pradesh emerges as a beacon of progress, showcasing the highest proportion of women in its workforce, according to the latest State Bank of India (SBI) Ecowrap report. The report, entering into the annual Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) data spanning 2021 to 2023, reveals a compelling narrative of women's increasing role in the state's economic landscape.
The key highlight revolves around the significant surge in the labour force participation rate (LFPR) among women in Himachal Pradesh. The LFPR is a crucial metric representing the segment of the working population engaged in employment or actively seeking job opportunities.
Himachal Pradesh's stride in this regard not only signifies women's increased participation in the workforce but also positions the state as a leader in fostering economic opportunities for its female population.
The data reveals that females constitute a remarkable 49% of the labour force participation in the 15-59 age group in Himachal Pradesh. This figure distinctly outshines the national average of 32%, underlining the state's commitment to promoting gender equality and women's economic empowerment.
The success story of Himachal Pradesh stands in stark contrast to the employment scenarios witnessed in neighbouring states such as Haryana and Punjab. In these regions, the share of females in the labour force falls significantly below the national average, emphasizing the unique achievement of Himachal Pradesh.
The State Bank of India's Ecowrap report positions Himachal Pradesh as a trailblazer in women's workforce participation. The findings underscore the state's dedication to breaking gender barriers, providing equal opportunities, and fostering an environment where women can actively contribute to the economic growth and development of the region.
Himachal Pradesh's commendable performance in enhancing women's participation in the workforce aligns with broader national and global goals of achieving gender parity and inclusivity. As the state continues to set new benchmarks, its success serves as an inspiration for other regions to prioritize and implement initiatives that empower women in the professional sphere.
