Petroleum Minister Inaugurates Hockey India Senior Women C'ship

Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri unveils the 3rd Hockey India Senior Women Inter Department National Championship 2023 at Shivaji Stadium, securing the tournament trophy in a competitive and thrilling setting.

Indian Oil Corporation hosted the tournament which was attended by Indian Hockey legends Ajit Pal Singh and Zaffar Iqbal, and hosted by Shri Pankaj Jain, Shri Shrikant Madhav Vaidya, and Shri Bholanath.

The Indian women's hockey team players who clinched the Asian Women's Hockey Championship were congratulated by Shri Hardeep Puri. He wished a fantastic tournament to every player on the eight participating hockey teams.

He emphasizes the importance of providing the best environment and resources for Indian girls to excel on a global stage, despite their participation in the Inter-Department Senior Women's Tournament.

Shri Pankaj Jain, a medical volunteer at Shivaji Stadium during the 1982 Asian Games Hockey matches, emphasized the importance of young hockey players as role models. He praised eight teams for their inspiring performances, bringing hope and happiness to the coming generation.

IndianOil Chairman Shri Shrikant Madhav pledged to support women's hockey and other sports, forming a team of young players and hoping for more opportunities for star female players.

Hockey historian and renowned author Sh K Armugum was honored at an event, where he presented new hockey sticks to 25 female players from his non-profit organization, One Thousand Hockey Legs (OTHL).

The championship features eight top-tier women's teams from India including the All Indian Police Sports Control Board, Railway Sports Promotion Board, UCO Bank, Union Bank of India, Sports Authority of India, Sashastra Seema Bal, and Tamil Nadu Police. The tournament hosted by Indian Oil Corporation-Women, celebrates sportsmanship and promotes women's hockey at the highest level.
