India's top producer of zinc, lead, and silver, Hindustan Zinc, a Vedanta group firm, has made a historic feat by creating the country's second all-women underground mine rescue team. The company's Sustainability Development Goals, which seek to achieve zero harm in operations, and its foremost principle of Safety First are perfectly aligned with this program.

8 phenomenal talented female engineers from the Underground Mine Operations & Maintenance team have made up the recently formed rescue team. These determined women have undergone a rigorous 18-day training program at the Mine Rescue Station (Western Coal Field Limited) in Nagpur and the Rampura Agucha Mine operated by the firm. During this training period, they have learned life-saving skills, including proficient navigation through dangerous environments, CPR, and SCBA proficiency.

This remarkable feat has been accomplished following the first all-women underground mine rescue team in India, at Hindustan Zinc. The first team includes exemplary trained women with adequate knowledge of emergency response, self-rescuers, kinds of fire, extinguishing procedures, mine gases, first aid, technician examinations, theoretical exams, and surface and underground mine emergency scenarios. with safety, inclusion, and diversity at the core of its business practices, Hindustan Zinc aims to boast an impressive 21.7 per cent female employee representation. India's second all-women underground mine rescue team marks a significant milestone in transforming workplace culture and promoting safety, empowerment, and excellence.
