Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Deviya Rane has highlighted the importance of providing women with greater opportunities, encouragement and institutional support to participate in public life and take up leadership roles. Her remarks focus on the need to strengthen women's representation in public affairs and decision-making.

Deviya welcomed the appointment of senior BJP leader Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar as the party's Goa prabhari (in-charge). The appointment was announced in September 2026 as part of the BJP's organizational changes. Pawar, the party's national vice-president and a former Union Minister of State for Health, was given responsibility for overseeing the BJP's organizational affairs in Goa, while Anil Antony was named co-in-charge.

The raising of the issue of women's involvement in public life emphasizes the need to put in place a conducive environment for the participation of women in governance, public administration and community development. Access to leadership positions can help women contribute their experiences and perspectives to those on policies and public priorities.

Key Highlights:

  • Deviya calls for greater opportunities and support for women in public life
  • Deviya welcomes Dr. Bharati Pawar’s appointment as BJP Goa in-charge
  • She stresses the importance of women’s representation in leadership and decision-making

Women are still juggling their roles in families, work and communities. Giving them appropriate forums, support and opportunities to engage in decision-making can assist them in leadership positions and in contributing to public life. Women's participation is also a means to the larger objective of promoting equal participation in political and social structures.

Deviya is an elected BJP member and MLU from the Poriem constituency in Goa. She has also participated in public efforts for the development of her region and community issues. As an elected official, she is part of the political decision making process in the state.

The larger question of gender representation in politics continues to be pertinent to Goa's political context. Women legislators' role in government and the need to provide women with meaningful opportunities to contribute to policy-making has previously been the subject of public discussion.

The need for women to be encouraged to take leadership positions on a continuing basis, and equal opportunities and institutional support are still needed. Increasing women's involvement in decision making in public affairs can contribute to ensuring their voices are heard in decisions impacting communities and society.
