The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi had earlier addressed the 108th Indian Science Congress (ISC) and praised the rise in the number of women engaged in "Extramural Research and Development". The International Science Congress this year proposed the topic, "Science and Technology for Sustainable Development with Women's Empowerment."
With this concern, PM Modi made a specific note about the increasing involvement of women in science, as it has also contributed to India's ranking among the Top 10 nations in the world. India ranked 81st out of 130 nations in the Global Innovation Index up till 2015. India had seen a rise to the 40th position by 2022. The involvement of women in extramural research has increased during the past eight years.
PM Modi also noted that the development in the participation of women is a reflection of the advancement of society and science. His remarks provided a piece of knowledge for the G20 Summit, which will be held in New Delhi this year in September. He also stated that "women-led development" would be "one of the key issues" that will be covered during India's G20 leadership.
