Olympic bronze medalist Bajrang Punia supports the concept of Women's Panchayat at the new Parliament building. Bajrang has praised the Sarv Khap Maha Panchayat's decision to form a Women's Panchayat in the Parliament on May 28.
According to Bajrang, people are happy with this decision and welcomed it. The organizations that will support this decision are the Mahila Wings as well as the female wrestlers along with them. The Panchayat will be conducted on May 28 outside the premises of the Parliament.
In addition to that, Bajrang also made it clear that none of the male wrestlers or the supporters would be accompanying the women to the Parliament.
This decision has been also welcomed by the wrestling coaches which will surely create a peaceful protest.
An anonymous coach from the team stated that they kept calling them (khap elders) from here to make sure that ‘rail roko’ or something similar doesn't occur. They prefer a peaceful protest and have nothing against the government. They are here just to support the women.
He further stated that some of the leaders at the Khap Panchayat in Meham wanted a large-scale protest which included ‘rail roko’ and ‘bus roko’ programs, but the wrestlers did not want to take any drastic action.
After the protest, the Khap leaders decided to form a women's panchayat to urge their demand that Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been accused of sexually assaulting female wrestlers should be taken into custody as soon as possible and provide the women wrestlers "extra support".
