FM Sitharaman Reviews Financial Inclusion Schemes in Ladakh

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited an exhibition in the Ladakh region, which showcased local handicrafts and handloom products created by Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and local entrepreneurs. The FM’s visit to the exhibition on Sunday is part of her four-day visit to Ladakh.

During the visit to the exhibition, FM Sitharaman spoke to local entrepreneurs, artisans, and women-led SHGs. She also made note of the traditional crafts and handloom textiles showcased at the exhibition.

While at the exhibition, FM Sitharaman spoke highly of the entrepreneurial spirit and creativity showcased by the artisans behind the products. She also shone light on the role played by artisans in safeguarding cultural heritage and boosting rural livelihoods in the Union Territory of Ladakh. The initiative is among the Central government’s policies to facilitate inclusive development, to strengthen and empower women and local entrepreneurs, and generate more employment opportunities.

In the following days, FM Sitharaman will lead a credit outreach programme that highlights the key role of credit in promoting financial inclusion and economic growth in the Ladakh region.

FM Sitharaman will inaugurate several developmental projects during her tour of Ladakh. She is also scheduled to meet with the councillors of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) and the Ladakh administration.
