- Cyber Sakhis to lead safe digital adoption in rural communities
- Initiative strengthens cyber resilience, awareness, and policy impact
India has rolled out e-SafeHER as a national program focused on advancing cyber security awareness among rural women. The program will target training one million rural women in a span of three years, establishing ‘Cyber Sakhis’ to lead community-level digital safety efforts.
The concept of e-SafeHER is designed as a gender-sensitive, community-led framework, strengthening the grassroots cyber security awareness. With digital platforms playing a vital role in today’s economy through financial transactions, livelihoods, and access to essential services, the initiative will empower women with skills and knowledge to navigate the online ecosystem with safety and security.
Driven by the Ministry of Electronics and IT’s Information Security Education and Awareness programme, the initiative blends government framework with technical and community capabilities. In collaboration with C-DAC and a corporate foundation, the program also tackles increasing digital risks among newly connected rural women.
Training will be delivered through structured modules and community-led interventions, laying emphasis on the peer learning within Self-Help Groups. With a strong focus on outcomes, the programme will enhance cyber security risk awareness; build confidence while making digital transactions and drive safer online behaviour.
Leanings’ will inform policy development and support inclusive, scalable growth of cyber security efforts over time. Aligned with India’s broader cyber security agenda, the programme supports stronger frameworks, improved response, and greater awareness across prevention, reporting, and education.
