Charu Desodt, head of Interior Night studio, has taken on the role of chair of the BAFTA Games Committee following her appointment.

She replaces Tara Saunders, the former head of Larian Studios, who has moved to Lego Digital Play as a senior people partner.

"As my tenure as chair of the BAFTA Games Committee and member of the BAFTA Board of Trustees comes to a close, I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who made this journey so unforgettable over the last 10 years," said Tara.

Charu boasts more than 25 years of industry experience, including senior production positions at Microsoft, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and Preloaded. She is also a member of the UK Video Games Council.

Key Highlights:

  • Charu Desodt has been appointed chair of the BAFTA Games Committee, succeeding Tara Saunders
  • Desodt brings more than 25 years of industry experience, with senior production roles at Microsoft, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and Preloaded
  • She previously received BAFTA Breakthrough recognition in 2014 and served on BAFTA Games Awards juries

She was hired onto Interior/Night in 2018 as production director, and in December 2022, assumed the role of studio director.

Charu is one of three new committee chairs elected to BAFTA's Board of Trustees, along with Hilary Rosen as Chair of the Academy.

From 2021, Rosen was a member of the BAFTA Television Committee, and was named chair of the committee in 2022. She will replace Sara Putt, and have a three year term, with deputy chairs Ade Rawcliffe and Andrew Miller.

Television Committee chair Caroline Levy is a film producer, and ITV DEI and talent lead Nahrein Kemp chairs the Learning, Inclusion, and Talent (LIT) Committee.

"I have long been passionate about everything BAFTA does to promote the screen arts and champion talent across the screen industries, so it is a great privilege to take on the role of BAFTA Chair," said Hilary.

"I am delighted to be able to do this alongside our newly appointed committee chairs, Charu, Caroline, and Nahrein, and the rest of the BAFTA Board of Trustees."

"All are outstanding industry leaders and with the collective passion and insight we share I'm confident that this Board of Trustees will continue to build on the important and impactful work that has gone before."

The BAFTA's sector committees have a significant role in the management and direction of the BAFTA's Film, Games and Television Awards. Their members give their time and industry knowledge to help fulfil BAFTA's charitable work throughout the screen industries. Chairs of the Committees also sit on the BAFTA Board of Trustees.

Charu has previously been picked up by BAFTA's Breakthrough program in 2014 and has sat on BAFTA juries. Her appointment will transfer to the Games Committee her proven expertise in the industry and knowledge of the awards and talent development aspects of BAFTA.
