The Delhi women’s cricket team made history in T20 domestic cricket by posting a score of 262 for 6 against Hyderabad in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy match in Pune. The total is the highest ever achieved by any women’s side in domestic T20 cricket. It also surpassed the record of 257 for 2 held by Goa against Arunachal Pradesh in the 2019-20 season. This innings stands as the 11th highest by a women’s team in the T20 game, with the highest totals being achieved in international games.

Tanisha Singh was at the forefront of this historic innings by playing a blazing knock of 119 runs off 47 deliveries. The opener scored her century in 38 deliveries to become joint third fastest in the women’s T20 game after Kiran Navgire, who made it in 34 deliveries. Sophie Devine occupies the second spot after scoring a 36-delivery century. Tanisha equalled the record of Deandra Dottin in scoring a hundred against South Africa in 2010. Despite losing her opening partner Vanshika Lila early, the 23-year-old continued to play aggressively and hit 25 fours and a six.

Key Highlights:

  • Delhi scored 262/6 against Hyderabad, setting a new domestic women's T20 record
  • Tanisha Singh smashed 119 off 47 balls, reaching her century in just 38 deliveries
  • Delhi defeated Hyderabad by 108 runs after restricting them to 154/8

A classic performance was delivered by the striking duo Srikarante and Priya Punia which turned out to be a landmark event in this innings where they scored 160 runs in just 66 balls which propelled the side past 175. Priya made a contribution of 59 runs in 28 balls before being dismissed, while Shweta Sehrawat added 26 runs in 8 balls that included three sixes. Owing to these contributions from the top and middle order players kept Delhi up with their scoring rate and ended up making a domestic record in the T20 format.

Delhi continued with their aggressive game plan towards the end of the innings following the dismissal of Tanisha who was bowled by G Trisha. Nazma Khan and Deeksha Sharma added scores alongside 15 from their captain Soni Yadav which kept Delhi in their stride with the total score of 262 for 6.

Vanka Pooja turned out to be the best bowler for Hyderabad and ended up taking 4 wickets for 32 runs in four overs. She did manage to give Hyderabad some good bowling with Delhi’s strong batting order but the other seven bowlers could not restrict the scoring rate.

In reply, Hyderabad had made a good beginning with opener G Trisha playing an innings of 80 runs from 52 balls. But it was hard to catch up to the target set because the run rate kept increasing in every ball. In addition to Trisha, the only other Hyderabad player who could score more than 20 runs was the team’s captain Pranavi Chandra. With Hyderabad’s inability to produce consistent scores through their batting line-up, the game soon became tough. Hyderabad ended its innings at 154 for 8, missing the target by 108 runs.
