  • It was meant to recognize the strength and accomplishments of army wives
  • The programme featured stories of eight army spouses

AWWA, the Southern Star Army Women’s Welfare Association, organized ASMITA–Dakshini Kathan 2025 to provide a forum for appreciation of the resilience, achievements, and contributions of the spouses of the army personnel.

The programme spoke about experiences of eight army wives who have carved their own journeys while traversing uniquely differentiated contours of military life.

ASMITA-a very unique initiative of AWWA-attempts to bring recognition to the strength of army families, particularly the women, who support their husbands through frequent relocations, long separations, and added responsibilities.

Special guests for Pune were Dr Deepa Malik, Padma Shri and Khel Ratna awardee; and Alina Alam, founder of Mitti Café, both of whom motivated the audience with their messages. The function was also attended by senior veteran women and civilian guests.

Participants talked about the overcoming of personal and family adversities, rebuilding after loss, and meeting individual ambitions within the demands of military life.

Their accounts reflected persistence, adaptability, and optimism—qualities commonly associated with the army community.

According to Regional AWWA President Komal Seth, ASMITA has been “not only an event but a movement” in which confidence is built, community ties strengthened and the multi-faceted role of the army wife recognized.

She reiterated AWWA's continued commitment to supporting and empowering the wider forces community.

The event concluded with the resolve for further work to engage with and support army families, recognizing that spouses themselves also have a critical role in supporting soldiers and the wider military community.
