India defeated Pakistan by 8 wickets in the Women's T20 World Cup for the Blind at the Katunayake BOI Grounds in Colombo on Sunday. India chased the target of 136 and reached 136/2 in 10 overs to win its fifth successive match of the tournament.
Pakistan, playing their second match, was bowled out for 135 after an early collapse at 23 for 4. Contributions by Mehreen Ali 66 and Bushra Ashraf 44 meant the innings remained in relatively good shape but India’s fielding performance led to seven run-outs.
In response, India produced another fine display of batting as captain Deepika TC scored 45 and Anekha Devi remained not out on 64. For her efforts, Anekha was named Player of the Match as the team continued to gain momentum in the journey to the semi-final.
The match also underlined a quality of sportsmanship as the visually impaired women from India and Pakistan got together in Sri Lanka for what the organizers describe as the world's first blind women's T20 tournament, putting political tensions aside to compete in an inclusive sporting environment.
