Anushka Sharma, a young rising Indian all-rounder from Madhya Pradesh, has been entrusted with captaincy responsibilities for India-A Women’s T20 team by The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). She will be leading the squad during the upcoming three-match series against England-A in the upcoming England tour.

The forthcoming matches will take place in Northampton and Chelmsford on June 20, June 23, and June 25 respectively. In the ensuing ODI series scheduled to run between June 28 and July 4 at Hove and Taunton, Harleen Deol will don the captain’s cap while Pratika Rawal will be the vice-captain. Vrinda Dinesh will act as deputy in the T20 team captained by Anushka.

The decision reflects Anushka’s consistent domestic performance and rising stature as a multi-format impact player. While sharing the excitement, Anushka kept it simple and grounded. "Playing for the country is every cricketer's dream. Leading the team as captain is a matter of great pride for me. I will try my best to give everything for my team," exclaimed Anushka.  "Will Give My Best," she added.

The chosen star was seen debuting for India during the South Africa tour, when she delivered credible performance across three matches, reinforcing her readiness for expanded responsibilities. Valuing as an all-rounder with high-value asset, Anushka has further demonstrated impact with a 44 off 30 innings for Gujarat Titans.

The England-based T20 World Cup 2026 starting June 12, positions India-A tour as a vital proving ground before India’s June 14 clash with Pakistan. Each player’s performance here could influence selector’s selection process.
