ABG's Grasim Industries Appoints Sangeeta Tanwani as its CEO
By: Women Entrepreneurs Review Team | Friday, 19 June 2026
Grasim Industries Limited of the Aditya Birla Group has announced the appointment of Sangeeta Tanwani as its CEO (Designate) for Textiles Business as part of its planned leadership transition in one of the company's operating divisions. The transition to the full role of CEO will happen from August 1, 2026, as Tanwani will succeed from November 1, 2026, as disclosed by the company to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
In the transition plan, the existing Business Head Textiles, Kapil Agrawal is set to continue in the position till October 31, 2026, after which he will be relieved. After his departure from the textiles venture, it now seems that Agrawal will be moving to a new leadership role in the bigger picture of the Aditya Birla Group. The move is not an external one, but it is an internal restructuring as Agrawal is being shifted to a new leadership role in the larger picture of the Aditya Birla Group.
The change in the leadership positions has been announced via formal announcements made to stock exchanges in accordance with the norms of corporate governance for listed companies by following SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. The move is part of a planned succession strategy to ensure continuity and stability in the textiles sector, the company has said.
Sangeeta has over 30 years of varied leadership experience in the retail, FMCG, financial services and pharmaceutical sectors. Since joining the Aditya Birla Group in 2018, she has played a key role in transforming the Group’s retail portfolio. One of her most significant achievements was driving the strategic transformation of Pantaloons, enhancing the brand's positioning and business efficiency. She has also played a key role in the development of the Group's value fashion business with the concept “Style Up” that has since been developed into the brand “OWND.”
Key Highlights:
- Sangeeta Tanwani appointed CEO (Designate) of Grasim Textiles; full charge from Nov 1, 2026
- Kapil Agrawal to step down on Oct 31, 2026, and take another role within Aditya Birla Group
- Tanwani, a retail veteran, will focus on strengthening brand-led and consumer-driven growth in textiles
Her appointment is regarded as the continuation of Aditya Birla Group's plan on putting leaders who have consumer focus at its helm for retail and textile businesses. Her experience with building scalable retail formats and fortifying customer-centric growth models will help Grasim in its ambitions in textiles, the industry reports.
Grasim Industries is one of the core companies in the Aditya Birla group and is involved in various businesses such as textiles, chemicals and construction materials. Its textiles business continues to be a key component of a diversified portfolio, and the leadership change will likely be in line with the company's strategic pivot towards brand-led growth and transformation of its business.
As per the practice of making material announcements to the exchanges, the appointment has been disclosed to the exchanges including BSE and NSE. The planned transition dates, starting from a specific phase in August and complete leadership change in November, guarantee a seamless transition and continuity in operations.
The textiles company will have a window of opportunity to realign its business with a long-term growth plan and will see a shift in strategy towards strengthening the consumer brand, enhancing retail execution, and opening up to value-focused fashion markets, with Tanwani taking the helm later this year.
