  • M.K. Stalin announced the disbursal of financial assistance on Friday
  • ₹5,000 was deposited into the bank accounts of 1.31 crore women
  • The support was given under a scheme titled *Kalaignar Women’s Rights Scheme

Ahead of Assembly elections, Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced on Thursday that authorities have disbursed ₹5,000 into bank accounts belonging to 1.31 crore women under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam.

The additional ₹5,000 is made up of a total of three advance payments of ₹3,000 from January to March, as well as a single-time payment of ₹2,000 that will be made from funds available due to an early disbursement of April’s funds.

On social media platform X, CM Stalin referenced the concerns regarding the scheme being paused for three months due to elections, and that the government therefore decided to pay out money in advance to ensure that beneficiaries would continue to receive support and that the scheme reflects a continued commitment by the government to the women of Tamil Nadu.

According to CM Stalin, if his party is re-elected into government, he has developed a proposal to expand on the Dravidian model by extending the monthly cash transfer of ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 per month for all social welfare beneficiaries for women.

He further stated that the proposed expansion of the Dravidian model is in addition to the government’s commitment to social welfare for all its citizens.
