- It seeks to foster financial inclusion and promote the involvement of women in the capital markets
Franklin Templeton India announced a nationwide investor education campaign that is focused on raising awareness about mutual funds among women.
This initiative supports financial inclusion and also increases women's participation in capital markets, which is consistent with the larger vision that financial literacy is needed for longer term socio-economic development.
The President of Franklin Templeton India, Avinash Satwalekar, says that "Even though there has been progress made in urban areas in terms of financial awareness, women in Tier II & III cities still lack the necessary access to information about finance and financial products."
During a tour of 17 towns in southern and western India, he found that many women do not know about mutual funds as an option for investment.
According to Avinash, the goal of the campaign is to reach all categories of women and provide them with useful information for sound savings and investments as well as the use of electronic payment methods.
On being in operation for 30 years in India, Franklin Templeton is celebrating with an outreach initiative over a 30-day period which began in Kanyakumari and is planned to cover 21 cities, culminating in Srinagar.
As part of the campaign, Franklin Templeton will conduct launching of financially literate sessions, expert discussions and community interaction to clarify the many aspects of mutual funds and to encourage females to consider their long-term investment options beyond just saving.
