Vitika Sharma Banerjee: Redefining Children's Fitness through Purpose-Driven Entrepreneurship
Vitika Sharma Banerjee
Co-Founder, Future Fit
Women leaders today are increasingly redefining success by moving beyond established corporate pathways to build businesses rooted in personal conviction and meaningful impact. Their journeys often involve challenging conventional expectations, navigating unfamiliar environments and turning professional expertise into opportunities that address real-world needs. For women transitioning into entrepreneurship, the ability to lead through uncertainty, build credibility and remain committed to a larger purpose becomes as important as business acumen.
Vitika Sharma Banerjee, Co-Founder of Future Fit, exemplifies this transition, bringing decades of corporate leadership experience into an entrepreneurial venture dedicated to children's fitness and well-being. Her professional journey began in 1996, when women were rarely seen in FMCG sales roles. Reportedly among the first women to take up a sales position at Dabur, she deliberately chose field sales over the conventional route into brand management, believing that firsthand market experience would strengthen her understanding of consumers and business.
Soon after her management training, she became an area sales manager, leading approximately 21 sales officers, many of whom were older and more experienced than her. Establishing credibility in a predominantly male environment tested her ability to communicate, influence and lead without relying solely on authority. The experience strengthened her confidence and taught her to bring diverse individuals together around shared business objectives.
Another defining chapter unfolded at Hindustan Unilever, where she was one of the youngest members of an experienced team and an external recruit entrusted with leading marketing for a new venture. Navigating established organizational practices while creating space for a new business sharpened her ability to challenge conventions, influence stakeholders and build momentum for change.
These formative experiences shaped her leadership philosophy, reinforcing the importance of adaptability, accountability and confidence in unfamiliar situations. Today, she brings these lessons to entrepreneurship, applying her corporate expertise to a purpose-driven mission that seeks to make fitness an engaging and lasting part of children's lives. Her journey reflects how women leaders can translate professional experience into ventures that combine business ambition with meaningful social impact.

What inspired your transition from corporate leadership to entrepreneurship, and how did the experience shape your approach to risk, resilience and independent decision-making?
After 23 years in corporate leadership, I wanted greater flexibility to balance my professional ambitions with raising my two daughters. I began consulting through The Fourth Dimension Experience before an unexpected opportunity led me to co-found Future Fit. Entrepreneurship taught me humility, accountability and the importance of learning beyond established roles. From managing everyday operations to navigating the pandemic, I learned that resilience comes from adapting to uncertainty and taking responsibility for every aspect of the business.
How did a personal concern about children's physical activity evolve into Future Fit's business vision?
Future Fit grew from our concern about children's limited opportunities for physical activity in urban environments. Pollution, screen time and sedentary routines made structured indoor fitness increasingly important. We saw gymnastics as a way to develop strength, balance, flexibility and coordination while making movement enjoyable. What began as a personal need gradually became a larger mission: helping children build healthy habits, physical confidence and a lifelong appreciation for fitness.
How do you and your co-founder divide responsibilities and maintain alignment while leading Future Fit?
We learned to build our partnership around complementary strengths. My co-founder leads technical training, curriculum and operations, drawing on her expertise in children's fitness and early childhood education. I focus on marketing, brand strategy and business development. We also divide regional responsibilities and respect each other's decisions within our areas of expertise. Over time, this clarity has strengthened our collaboration. I believe successful partnerships depend on mutual trust, defined responsibilities and a shared commitment to the larger purpose.
What were your biggest challenges as an entrepreneur, and how did they change your leadership and approach to growth?
Moving from functional leadership to complete business ownership was a major adjustment. I had to learn everything from selecting locations and sourcing equipment to managing contracts, banking and payments. The pandemic tested us further, forcing us to rebuild after growing from one centre to 14 academies. Today, we operate 10 academies and remain bootstrapped. These experiences taught me to value financial discipline, continuous learning and sustainable expansion over growth for its own sake.
What advice would you offer women aspiring to build credible, purpose-driven businesses?
I encourage women to be less afraid of the unknown and start learning along the way rather than waiting until they feel completely prepared. Entrepreneurship requires calculated risk-taking, patience, perseverance and resilience. It is equally important to pursue a meaningful opportunity and find a co-founder whose strengths complement your own. Building a business takes time, and the right partnership can help you navigate difficult periods while celebrating progress together.
What are your long-term ambitions for Future Fit and the impact you hope to create?
I want Future Fit to become the world's most sought-after children's fitness brand. Our ambition is to reach one million children by 2030 through academies, school partnerships, camps and international collaborations. We also want to create rewarding opportunities for gymnastics coaches and encourage families to see fitness as an essential part of childhood, not merely competitive sport. Our priority is to grow responsibly while remaining committed to children's well-being and our core mission.
