  • The runners comprised women belonging to various age groups and fitness levels

The ZYDOS PINKATHON PUNE returned to PUNE after seven years on April 6 with over 4,500 women participating in this event held at the AFMC GROUND.

In addition to showcasing Pune’s vibrant running culture, the Pinkathon also highlighted Pune's ever-increasing commitment to women’s health.

According to a Press Release issued by Pinkathon, the run commenced in the early morning hours and included multiple distances including 3 km, lifelong (5 km), (10 km), and ultra-distance events of (50 km), (75 km), (100 km) and a 100 km roof-top relay.

Participants from all endurances and ability levels participated in the event, ranging from first time racers to seasoned endurance athletes.

Milind Soman commented on the uniqueness of this initiative: "This is just further confirmation of the amazing running culture that exists in Pune! We have seen runners from all different levels join us for this wonderful event… many being new and others being very experienced participants from other types of running, such as ultramarathoners! The successful return of Pinkathon (last year's Pinkathon happened on the same day, March 17) shows that Pune's citizens continue to prove that they want to lead healthy lives!"

The Mayor of Pune, Manjusha Nagpure, stated: "The Pinkathon is an umbrella project to unite the entire Pune community, as well as bringing together all females, of all ages and from all walks of life, to run in this event – the Pinkathon is an event for healthy living, and to motivate each woman to be involved in her community and, hopefully, run in future Pinkathon events!"

The Pinkathon was organized to encourage people to take care of their health by educating them about doing an Easy Exam (the self-examination of breasts) which is first step for finding breast cancer.

"We're really excited about this project and the impact it will have on women's health," said Zydus Life sciences' Managing Director, Sharvil Patel.
