- The workshop aimed at the empowerment of women through self-defense training
Yeshwantrao Chavan College of Engineering (YCCE) Department of Applied Chemistry conducted a self-defense workshop with the primary focus of representing the significance of women empowerment. The session, which was particularly held for girls and lady teachers, was conducted to provide the participants with physical as well as mental means for self-protection.
Certified trainer and martial arts professional Nandu Kapoor conducted the workshop, leading an interactive session on self-defense strategies, situation awareness, and strategies for staying cool under pressure. Kapoor also highlighted the need for mental preparation in dealing with unpleasant situations effectively.
The project is another testament to YCCE's continued dedication towards providing a safe and enabling environment for women. The workshop was conducted by Shruti Gomkale and Head of Department Prajakta Waghe, and was inaugurated by the Principal U.P. Waghe formally.
Women's safety in India remains a grave issue despite continuous efforts to enhance the situation. Thousands of cases of violence are reported annually, but numerous others remain unspoken because of fear and stigma. Far too many women are abused in their homes, and acid attacks disfigure them for life.
Young girls continue to be married off prematurely, jeopardizing their futures. Also targeted by trafficking are numerous women and girls. To add to that, access to justice is in many cases a hard and lengthy process, with inadequate assistance to see them through it. All these indicate just how much of a need there is to make spaces safer, educate, and provide better systems for the protection and empowerment of women nationwide.
