Indian Women Defeat Host Sri Lanka by 9 Runs in First ODI of Tri-Series

Indian batter Pratika Rawal played a spectacular unbeaten 50-run knock which led team India to an exciting win over Sri Lanka in the first match of women’s ODI tri-series being played in Colombo.

The match was cut short to 39 overs due to rains. The host team’s first loss has brought host team Sri Lanka to the bottom on the points table while team India’s net run rate of 2.082 has brought the team on top of the table.

The women in blue wore black armbands during the match in order to pay respect to the victims of the tragic Pahalgam terror attack, and as a sign of and solidarity with the families of those affected by the attack.

Team India was chasing a total of 148. The Indian side’s batting quest began with Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana. The duo was off to a strong start and reached the 50-run mark at the end of the ninth over. India lost the first wicket at the 54 runs mark as Smriti M lost her wicket at 43 runs off 46 balls. Harleen Deol came in at the one wicket down mark.

Team India reached the 100-run mark at the 21st over and they reached the target at the 30th over with nine wickets to spare. Pratika Rawal and Harleen Deol were unbeaten on the crease.

The Sri Lankan side which was led by Chamari Athapaththu managed to only score 147 and were bowled out in the 38.1 over.

The Indian side saw Sneh Rana, Deepti Sharma and Nallapureddy Charani take two wickets each. Additionally one wicket was taken by Arundhati Reddy.
