Women's T20 Series: Aus Beat India in Second Match

The Indian women’s cricket team faced a six-wicket defeat at the hands of Australia in the second match of the three-match T20 series being played at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. With this, the series is at a tie and the final deciding match is to be played on Tuesday.

Alyssa Healy, the Aussie captain won the toss and chose to bowl first.

India batted first and struggled to put runs on the table. Deepti Sharma scored 30 runs off 27 balls which helped India reach a total of 130/8 in 20 overs.

Team Australia also struggled in the middle order. However, Alyssa Perry and Phoebe Litchfield showcased remarkable skill and helped their team win with six wickets and one over to spare.

The result also means Australia, led by, level the series 1-1, making the final India vs Australia T20 at the same venue on Tuesday the deciding game. India won the opening match by nine wickets.

Kim Garth trapped opener Shafali Verma LBW in the second over followed by taking Jemimah Rodrigues’ wicket in the fourth over. 

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and opener Smriti Mandhana showcased an effort to steady the team and played a 22-run partnership for the third wicket. However, Smriti lost her wicket.

Next Harmanpreet’s wicket was taken in 11th over with the score being 54/3.

Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh got the Indian side to130/8 in 20 overs.

Alyssa and Beth Mooney gave Australian a good start and scored 51 runs in the first seven overs.

Deepti Sharma skilfully bowled Healy and Mooney out.  

Alyssa Perry and Phoebe Litchfield got Australia to the winning total.
