The Women's Hockey India League (HIL) 2025 is India's first edition of the league, starting from January 12 to 26, 2025. The league features four teams which aims to provide a platform for women hockey players to showcase their talent and gain financial stability, inspiring more young girls to pursue hickey careers.
The inaugural match of the league was won by Odisha Warriors against Delhi SG Pipers by 4-0, whereas the second match was secured by the JSW Soorma Hockey Club.
JSW Soorma Hockey Club defeated Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers 4-1 in their opening Women's Hockey India League (HIL) game. After trailing 0-1 after the first quarter, Soorma scored four goals in a frantic 10-minute spell in the second half, including goals from Olivia Shannon, Charlotte Englebert, Salima Tete, and Sonam. Despite an early goal from Hannah Cotter, Soorma's relentless attack and solid defense led to the victory.
Soorma conceded in the seventh minute, with Hannah Cotter's goal. The Tigers' defense thwarted Soorma's attacks, and they won five penalty corners in the first 30 minutes.
The Tigers nearly extended their lead, but Penny Squibb's run and Olivia Shannon's goal helped break down the door in the second half. Charlotte Englebert scored another goal in the 42nd minute, and Salima scored the third goal after a stick check.
Sushila Chanu, reflected by the Tigers' frustration, blocked Maria Verschoor's stick, and Sonam, responsible for taking the penalty stroke, scored a fourth goal in under 10 minutes.
The third match of the Women's Hockey India League 2025 will be played between Delhi SG Pipers vs Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers, Today, January 14, 2025, in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
