The Women’s Andhra Premier League (WAPL) is expected to provide women cricketers across Andhra Pradesh with a platform to showcase their skills and gain greater exposure, Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission Chairperson Rayapati Sailaja said.
Speaking at the “Bikes and Bats: Women on Wheels” awareness ride in Vijayawada on September 17, 2026, Sailaja welcomed the growing recognition of women in cricket and highlighted the league’s role in creating opportunities for female players.
Women cricketers from across the State will compete in four teams representing Godavari, Amaravati, Vizag and Rayalaseema, bringing players from different regions together through the new league.
Key Highlights:
- The Women’s Andhra Premier League will give women cricketers greater exposure and competitive experience
- Four teams will compete in 13 matches at Mangalagiri Stadium from September 19 to 27
- Mithali Raj will serve as the tournament’s brand ambassador
From September 19 to 27, the Andhra Cricket Association will host the first-ever Women’s Andhra Premier League at the Mangalagiri Stadium. The tournament will feature four teams, and it will comprise 13 matches, including the final.
By holding the tournament, the ACA aims to give women cricketers a chance to gain competitive experience and to recognize as well as nurture talent from all over the State. The ACA has announced that the future seasons of the league will be made bigger in order to provide more opportunities for female cricketers in Andhra Pradesh.
Entry to the matches will be free for the spectators, and buses will be utilized to transport students from Vijayawada to the Mangalagiri Stadium.
Mithali Raj, who led the Indian women’s cricket team as captain, has been appointed as the brand ambassador for the tournament. It is believed that her presence at the competition will enhance its prominence and inspire many women cricketers to pursue their dreams.
The Andhra Cricket Association has also indicated its plans to launch the Women’s Andhra Premier League outside Mangalagiri in the coming seasons. The ACA hopes to hold the matches in Visakhapatnam and Kadapa in the following editions, as this will allow women cricketers throughout Andhra Pradesh greater access to competitive cricket.
