By: WE Staff | Friday, 17 March 2023
The "Mahila Samman Yojana" is an initiative taken by the state government of Maharashtra under which women of Maharashtra will get a concession of 50% on all bus facilities operated by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC). It will be into effect today, Friday 17 March. The motive of this initiative is to increase women's participation in mobility in various sectors of society.
The state government will pay back the concession amount to the firm. Devendra Fadnavis, the state’s deputy chief minister who also manages the financial sector declared this statement of 50% off for women bus travelers on 9 March while he presented the state's budget for 2023-24. This initiative was mentioned in the Press Release issued by the MSRTC today.
The officials of MSRTC raised an issue of determining the number of female passengers who will get benefits through this scheme as there are no gender-linked tickets released earlier. The firm anticipates that between 35 to 40 percent of bus, travelers should be female.
This type of initiative has been already put into action in Delhi and Karnataka.
