Women in Blue Create History; Win Women's WC by defeating SA

The Indian women’s cricket team has scripted history and lifted the coveted Women’s World Cup trophy by defeating South Africa by 52 runs. The high-voltage women’s World Cup final match was being played at a fully-packed stadium in Navi Mumbai. Deepti Sharma and Shafali Verma played crucial innings to aid the women in blue in winning a difficult match.

The South African side won the toss and chose to bowl in the first innings. The Indian team put up a strong show in the first half of the match and put up 299 on the scoreboard. At one point, South Africa was in a strong position to reach the target score, but it was Deepti Sharma’s breakthrough that helped India achieve a dramatic win.  

Deepti Sharma took Annerie Dercksen’s wicket, and the Proteas crumbled from 209 for 5 to 246 all out. Deepti managed to score three of the most important wickets in the second innings, including the SA skipper, Laura Wolvaardt. Deepti scored a total of five wickets by giving off just 39 runs from 9.3 overs.

Indian batter Shafali Verma played a crucial innings, and he 87-run spell helped the team reach 298 for 7. She also scored important wickets that helped India seal the deal.

Shafali was adjudged the Player of the Match, and Deepti Sharma was named the Player of the Tournament for their commendable performances.

It has been announced that the women in blue will receive a whopping prize money close to 37.3 crore INR.

The Women’s World Cup 2025 has turned out to be a watershed moment for women’s cricket in India and beyond. It has aided in bringing the required visibility to the sport, which is required for its growth in the years to come.
