Women Hiring in India Holds at 33% Share in Placements
By: WE Staff | Friday, 24 April 2026
- Women made up one-third of placements in 2025, with growth in mid-career roles
- BFSI GCCs led with 40 percent women participation, highest across sectors
- Leadership and tech skill gaps persist, with fewer senior roles and a 20–25 percent skills gap
Data from a new Careernet report has revealed that one-third of the candidates placed into jobs in the year 2025 were female, compared to the point in time being measured. Reports also indicated that women were experiencing consistent employment stability relative to other job placement trends.
According to the report from Careernet, the entry level job category comprised the largest percentage of all categories of placement at 36 percent. On the contrary, the placements of senior workers who had been employed for over 12 years was reduced from 19 percent to 16 percent, illustrating that the leadership gap is ongoing.
In totality, the hiring of women with 3-12 years of experience increased by approximately two percent from a year earlier, indicating that an ever-growing demand exists for those women who had experience prior to obtaining their most recent positions.
Overall, in 2025 the BFSI Global Capability Centers had the highest women participating in a workforce at the centers of 40 percent; while other Global Capability Centers had the next highest participation of 38 percent. It is very encouraging to see that there continues to be a very high number of women in leadership roles within these centers of excellence.
In addition to the Global Capability Centers, there continued to be high levels of women participating in core sectors. In total, 31 percent of the placements made into Core Sectors were completed by women in BFSI; Information Technology Services were in second place with 29 percent; the Domestic Enterprises had women participating in 25 percent of all employees in Core Sectors; and the Domestic Product Global Capability Centers had an approximate 22 percent participation rate of women.
Women that were placed into positions in Chennai comprised 30 percent of total placements; women in Bengaluru comprised 29 percent; 26 percent of the women placed into positions occurred in Mumbai; and 24 percent of the women placed into positions occurred in Delhi/NCR.
"With one in three placements being women and strong momentum in BFSI GCCs hiring, along with gains at the mid-career level, targeted interventions are clearly delivering results,"Neelabh Shukla, Chief Business Officer, said.
“As hiring becomes more selective, women are increasingly represented in roles that demand experience and continuity”, he added.
A second report prepared by TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship and GAN Global indicates the continuing gap separating genders in specialized IT and technology fields. Women provide 35-38 percent of the total employees in IT, but there is still 20-25 percent of a gap between women who are prepared to work and those who have received advanced technical skills.
