Women Faculty Lead Tree Plantation Drive at Central Haryana University
By: Women Entrepreneurs Review Team | Friday, 21 August 2026
Women faculty members of the Central University of Haryana have taken a meaningful step toward environmental conservation, women’s leadership, biodiversity protection, and community responsibility by organizing a special tree plantation drive on the university campus under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.
This was the first time when women staff of the University, including women faculty, joined hands for plantation drive together. The campaign was primarily about improving green cover and to raise awareness about protecting rare and locally important flora.
During the drive, saplings of rare plants like Rudraksha, Parijat, Harshringar and White Peepal were planted all over the campus. Professor Sunita Srivastava of Physics Department inaugurated the initiative by planting Rudraksha and Parijat trees.
During the campaign, Professor Sunita pointed out the necessity of increasing the forest cover in the southern part of Haryana. She said that everyone has to plant trees wherever they can and in public areas and make it a point to take care of them to achieve ecological balance.
Key Highlights
- Women faculty members led the university’s first collective plantation drive.
- Rare saplings including Rudraksha and Parijat were planted.
- Faculty highlighted biodiversity conservation and increasing forest cover.
The plantation initiative also brought attention to the growing environmental concerns affecting the region. Professor Surendra Singh of the Department of Microbiology noted that industrialization and vehicular emissions are adversely affecting the environment. He also introduced the participating women faculty members to different plant species available at the university’s nursery, encouraging greater awareness of plant diversity and conservation.
Professor Vinod Kumar, Chemistry Department, added another important point in this regard and said that in southern Haryana many species of trees are on the verge of extinction and Jaal and Kendu are among them. He said it was a serious issue and added that there was a need to conserve the local and rare species and also do extensive plantation of trees to maintain biodiversity.
The program received a great response from the female faculty from various departments. The campaign was actively participated by Professor Sushila Soria, Professor Suman Yadav, Professor Vidyulata Peddireddy, Dr Anita Kumari, Dr Suman Rani, Dr Neha Bishnoi and Dr Manisha Pandey who planted various saplings.
The project is an example of the participation of women in the academic world in efforts other than their subject work for a better environment, ecological awareness and social contribution. The women faculty members' participation in the plantation drive showed a strong sense of commitment towards ensuring a greener environment and promoting responsible environmental practices.
Vice Chancellor Professor Tankeshwar Kumar and Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Pawan Kumar Sharma congratulated the women faculty members for their initiative and appreciated their efforts toward environmental conservation.
Adjunct Professor Dr. Rakesh Bhardwaj of the Department of Chemistry further supported the campaign by providing all the saplings planted during the drive.
The initiative served as a meaningful platform for women faculty members to come together beyond their academic responsibilities and contribute to the university’s environmental efforts, while promoting awareness of local plant species and the importance of a sustainable environment.
