More than 5,000 farmers, startups, and community groups participated in the Lucknow Farmers Market (LFM) online and offline on Sunday. Held at Habibullah Estate, the event pulled a good number of women entrepreneurs, who formed over 80 percent of the attendees.
They showcased a wide range of locally-produced items, from organic dals, spices, and fresh fruits to candles, cosmetics, and bakery products. Brands such as Candlerea, The Masala Box, Our Pasta Lab, and Vedic Organic Farming promoted the theme of conscious consumption at the event.
Founders Jyotsana Kaur Habibullah emphasized the philosophy upon which LFM was established: empowering women, respecting mothers, and healing the earth. Of the hits among the unique offerings was "Maaji ke Haathon ka Achaar" started by Divya Singh amid the pandemic on the influence of her mom's traditional food items. Popular also was Combucha Garden from Gopal Krishna Agarwal that focused on gut health via handmade probiotic beverages and undertook a green return-and-recycle model.
The market also featured local favorites like Madhu Makkhi’s organic honey and mustard oil, and bakeries such as Just Cakes and Yellow House, which added a sweet charm with their doughnuts, cupcakes, and candies. Health awareness was a priority too, with Thalassemia Week being promoted in collaboration with BloodConnect. The event also included a book exchange booth and involvement by the Fridays for Future climate movement, coordinated by Ashutosh Tiwari, emphasizing climate action and youth activism.
Live performances generated festive atmosphere, with lovingly crafted odes to mothers adding emotional depth. As LFM celebrates a decade of fostering sustainable entrepreneurship, it continues to raise farmers, artisans, and the environment through grassroots initiatives.
