Uttarakhand Women Lead Business Growth, Says CM Dhami

Women in Uttarakhand are increasingly participating in business, helping in jobs being generated, along with boosting local products, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said on Saturday.

He spoke at “Manthon-2025: 5th National Leaders’ Summit (Women’s Special),” organized by Business Uttarayani, held at the Main Sevak Sadan. Women entrepreneurs and women who have made their mark were given awards.

The Chief Minister said that the main objective of the summit was to encourage women entrepreneurship and pay tribute to those women who have made special contributions in startups, self-reliance, and other areas.

Speaking on the topic of initiatives by the nation, CM Pushkar mentioned that the Government of India’s handling of women empowerment under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is quite noteworthy.

This includes 33 per cent representation of women in Parliament and State Assemblies, the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign, ‘Ujjwala Yojana’, ‘Jan Dhan Yojana’, ‘Lakhpati Didi Scheme’, to name a few initiatives, in addition to the removal of ‘Triple Talaq’.

CM mentioned that women’s representation is being witnessed in sectors such as industry, education, science, sports, research, and the military.

The Chief Minister said that the Uttarakhand state administration is devoted to enhancing the involvement of women in education, health care, entrepreneurship, and self-employment.

As a part of the Mukhya Mantri Udyam Shala Yojana, products produced by self-help groups run by women are being products, and incubation facility is being provided to over 15,000 women entrepreneurs, self-help groups, and Lakhpati Didis.

He also mentioned the "House of Himalayas" umbrella brand, which helps to promote local products via e-commerce sites as well as retail stores.

CM Pushkar pointed out that there are approximately 70,000 self-help groups with five lakh women in them, as well as over 7,000 village organisations and 500 cluster level organisations in the state.

“Over 1.68 lakh women have achieved status as Lakhpati Didi,” he said, adding that “efforts are being made to strengthen systems…for processing, packaging & marketing women's products.”

He said that the government of Uttarakhand is providing a 30 percent reservation to women in government departments, and the state is the first one to apply the concept of the Uniform Civil Code, improving the safety and rights of women.

The Chief Minister concluded by saying that the state government would keep working for the better opportunities of women and their contribution in the overall development of the state of Uttarakhand.
