Uttarakhand Starts Free Helicopter Service for Pregnant Women

A helicopter service has started in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district for providing transportation of pregnant women to hospitals Officials announced Wednesday; and one pregnant woman has already been transported from Jakholi to the District Hospital under this initiative.
For those pregnant women who live in isolated areas, the service is provided at no charge (by the government) making safe delivery available for them.
The officials further stated that Udina, who resides in a remote area of the district, was flown to Rudraprayag on Wednesday by helicopter for safe medical assistance during birth.
District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar stated that it would be of great help to people residing in areas where there is restriction on road access to facilitate timely emergency medical services that are needed.
He further stated that this is one step closer to reducing mortality rates for pregnant women and newborns and ensuring safe motherhood.
