UP Governor Anandiben Patel Spotlights Education for Women's Growth

Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel said on 31st August that women’s empowerment begins at home and is supported by access to education. Addressing an event in Lucknow, she noted that daughters are making significant progress in education, start-ups, business and other fields.

Patel said a supportive family environment, the right mindset and equal opportunities are important for women to advance in their personal and professional lives. She emphasized that continued encouragement can help women overcome barriers and achieve their goals.

The Governor said she was confident that women would take on greater responsibilities in the coming years. She highlighted their growing role in education, administration, entrepreneurship and leadership, and said their participation would continue to strengthen society.

Patel made the remarks during a discussion at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow on Shatayu Sangh aur Mahila Sahbhagita, a book authored by social worker and National Commission for Women advisory committee member Dr Shobha Vijendra. The Jan Bhavan issued a statement on the event.

Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana also spoke about the role of women, and how they are ‘matrishakti’ in Sangh's work. Speaking about the past, Mahana said that his mother had great love and respect for ‘swayamsevaks' and ‘pracharaks' of the Sangh.

In the Sangh, women are treated with the greatest respect and they are the reason why the family, the spirit of service and society progresses.

UP Women's Welfare Minister, Baby Rani Maurya said women are strength not just to the family but also to the society and the nation too. She believes that today, in all spheres, women are moving forward and must have opportunities and authority to lead and take decisions.  She emphasized the importance of women's role in making all progress in the society, especially the role of the rural women.

Education was added as one of the areas of empowerment of women. Better access to education will help women to become more confident, skilled and to make informed decisions on their employment and life. Empowerment, the speakers added, must be more than education to give women greater power to participate in decision making at home, in the work place and in society.

One of the topics that was discussed was the involvement of rural women. Women in the rural areas play an important role in the family and their involvement in the family can be extended into their communities and wider society. Giving those opportunities, resources and more autonomy in decision making can help enhance their role in society.

The speakers' remarks actually spoke to a broader topic of women's active participation in development, not just as the targets of development. Women will be increasingly important in education, administrative, entrepreneurship and leadership positions in future, and get more support from their families, society.
