India won six additional medals at the U22 Asian Boxing Championships 2025 in Bangkok on Monday, as six Indian boxers entered the semifinals with excellent victories in their own matches.
Among women, Priya (60kg) started the ball rolling with a resounding 5:0 victory over Japan's Sarii Kokufu. Paranjal Yadav (70kg) then came with a closely fought 3:2 split decision triumph over China's Mengge Zhang in a tightly fought battle.
In the men's category, Harsh (60kg) outclassed Mongolia's Munkh-Erdene Erdenebold with a unanimous 5:0 verdict. Later in the evening, Neeraj (75kg) defeated Chinese Taipei’s Jun-Zhang Lin 5:0, Rockey Chaudhary (85kg) overcame Kazakhstan’s Azatbek Zholdaskhan 4:1 and Ishan Kataria (90kg) forced a referee stoppage against Iran’s Seyedyousef Mousavi to book his spot in the semifinals.
Earlier during Sunday, Bhawna Sharma (48kg) and Yatri Patel (57kg) had already guaranteed India two medals by going into the semifinals, taking the medal tally to eight so far in the U22 category.
Of the seven Indian boxers who fought on Monday, only Sagar (55kg) failed to move forward, losing in his quarterfinal match.
The ongoing U19 and U22 Asian Boxing Championships are serving as a make-or-break opportunity for India's young guns—20 each in both age categories—to test themselves against some of Asia's stiffest opponents.
