Exhibiting outstanding stamina and resolve, Padamati Anvitha, a mountaineer from Telangana has been successful in climbing Mount Denali which is a 6,190-meter high mountain considered to be one of the toughest and highest peak in North America.

Her success in scaling this difficult mountain makes it as her sixth feat in the Seven Summits challenge.

The successful climb of to Mount Denali on June 19 has put her among the very few Indian women who have achieved the task with grit, resilience, and vision.

She started off with her Denali expedition from India on June 3 and moved into the mountains on June 7. She climbed along with her fellow expeditioner, Renata from Argentina. The two of them successfully completed their Denali expedition without any help from guides or porters.

It is pertinent to note that the Bhongir-born mountaineer from Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district has shown extraordinary resilience and perseverance through her climbs of Mount Everest, Mount Manaslu, Mount Vinson, Mount Elbrus, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Mount Aconcagua.

Key Highlights:

  • Padamati Anvitha scales Denali, completes sixth Seven Summit
  • Telangana climber moves closer to historic Seven Summits feat
  • Anvitha carries Indian flag to North America’s highest peak

Beyond notable international peaks, Padamati’s climbing adventures include leading expeditions and achieving feats all over India, inclusing Mount Everest (8,849 m). She was also successful in climbing Mount Gorichen in Arunachal Pradesh and Mount Khadey in Ladakh.

Her many record-breaking climbs have won her acclaim at the national level, such as being the first Indian to climb the actual summit of Mount Manaslu (8,163 m), and the first Indian to climb Mount Elbrus (Europe) in the winter season while holding up an Indian tricolour measuring ten metres in length.

As a member of the Transcend Academy of Rock Climbing (TARC) in Bhongir, Padamati continues to be actively engaged in mentoring future generations of climbers. TARC was founded as a Rock Climbing School in collaboration with Telangana Tourism and Transcend Adventures, is an outdoor adventure center.

Regarding her ascent up Mount Denali, Padamati said that each mountain she climbs has taught her a lot about patience, perseverance, and humbleness. Later on, she added that one of the best experiences in her life was waving the Indian flag at the top of the highest mountain in North America.

The 24 years old Indian alpinist was born and raised in the town of Bhongir, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district, Telangana and is a proud daughter of Madhu Sudan Reddy and Chandrakala. Coming from a humble family background, it is hard to manage my finances. “My expedition to Kilimanjaro has cost me around three lakhs of rupees, which amounts to six months’ earning of my family. It’s costly but my father always encourages me,” says the mountaineer.

Mount Denali (formerly called Mount McKinley) is an extremely desirable climb for mountaineering enthusiasts. It is located in Alaska and is infamously known as one of the coldest, windiest, and toughest mountains in the world, serving as preparation grounds for 8,000 meter Himalayan climbs. It is worth noticing that less than 50% of guided expeditions successfully make it to the top during any particular year, mainly because of extreme weather conditions.
