
Stree India Sports Launches Conclave to Promote Women Athletes

- The conclave aims to promote equal opportunities for women athletes in sports
To promote equal opportunity for women athletes and to acknowledge talent arising from local villages, towns, and other disadvantaged backgrounds across all states of India, the Stree India Sports Foundation organized the Stree India Sports Conclave at Maharashtra Sadan, Delhi.
The Conclave was inaugurated with a lighting of the lamp ceremony with the Chief Guest Pravesh Sahib Singh, Cabinet Minister, Government of NCT of Delhi, joined by Dr. Deepa Malik, who was India's first female Paralympic medalist and Rivaba Ravindra Singh Jadeja, as well as Dr. Jaideep Arya Chair of Haryana Yog Aayog and General Secretary World Yogasana, and Yogasana Bharat.
The main highlight of the event was the launch of the official podcast, a new website for Stree India Sports Foundation to highlight the journeys and accomplishments of women athletes across the nation.
During the event, Pravesh encouraged the foundation to provide details for five women athletes who showed promise and assured the foundation that he would help support to help advance the sports careers of the five women.
Attending the conclave were prominent miror figures from the sports realm, including Ashok Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Sports University Haryana; Yogesh Kathuniya, two-time Paralympic silver medalist (his mom), Meena Devi; Seema Tomar, Indian trap shooter; Dr. Shreya Rasania, sports medicine doctor; Dr. Kangana Juneja Kansal, sports physiotherapist; Dr. Neha Jainer Bhatia, homeopathic physician, and yoga therapist
Arundhati Chaudhary, Indian boxer; Shri Devesh Chandra Srivastava (IPS), Special Commissioner of Police, Delhi; Manoj Verma, National President, United Muaythai Association India; and Mayank Srivastava (IPS), Deputy Director General, Sports Authority of India, among other dignitaries who huddle closely.
In her opening remarks, Geeta Singh, the head of the Stree India Sports Foundation, spoke about the need to dispel the deeply held patriarchal perspective of sport as the "work of boys" and stated that Stree India's mission is to create a quality space that is supportive and safe for women in sport. Children from Yogasana India performed at the event and were applauded by the audience.
The conclave provided a consideration of the ideals of equity, recognition, and opportunity in sport, and restated the Stree India Sports Foundation's steadfast commitment to women competing in sport while always assuring that the proper conditions, spaces, resources, and environments are in place for women and all for the pursuit of reaching their fullest potential.
