TATA WPL 2025: UPW Registers their First Win, Defeats DC by 33-runs

UP Warriorz secured their TATA Women's Premier League 2025 campaign's first victory with a 33-run win over Delhi Capitals, due to Chinelle Henry's half-century and four-wicket hauls from Kranti Goud and Grace Harris. Match 8 of TATA Women's Premier League 2025 was organized at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

DC captain Meg Lanning won the toss and elected to field, with UPW openers Vrinda Dinesh and Kiran Navgire playing well. UPW ended the powerplay at 38/1, with UPW skipper Deepti Sharma off the mark. DC made two crucial catches, dismissing Navgire and Sharma. Arundhati Reddy and Kapp's timber strikes pushed UPW further behind at 87/5 as they dismissed Shweta Sehrawat and Grace Harris. Taking the charges, Chinelle Henry, scored a 23-ball 62 smashing 8 sixes and 4 boundaries with a strike rate of 269.56, equaling Sophia Dunkley's record for the fastest TATA WPL fifty in tournament history. UPW put up a score of 177/9 in 20 overs.

During the second innings, DC opener Shafali Verma against UPW scored 24 off 30 deliveries, with Uma Chetry and Saima Thakor missing easy stumpings. Kranti Goud took her maiden TATA WPL wicket dismissing skipper Meg Lanning and then bowled out Shafali leaving DC struggle at 43/2. Further, Jemimah Rodrigues scored 56 off 35 but, Kranti bagging the second youngest 4-fer in the WPL dismissed Jemimah and Jess Jonassen as well. Grace Harris scored a hat-trick, becoming the third player to take a TATA WPL hat-trick, and dismissed Nikki Prasad, Arundhati Reddy, and Minnu Mani. UPW bowlers ended the game dismissing DC for 144, registering a crucial win.
